Those MIT hackers were up late last night! The latest hack in a long tradition of hacks was revealed in the morning light. A fire truck mysteriously appeared on top of the Great Dome this morning to commemorate the five-year anniversary of 9/11.
While the Great Dome is often the stage for many pranks, MIT hackers have been hacking all over campus and beyond for many years. Earlier this year a group of hackers changed a large “MIT” sign on
the new Frank Gehry building to read, “VOMIT.” They also “moved” a cannon (yes, a cannon) from the Caltech campus all the way across the country to the MIT campus. (It was later rescued by students from Caltech.)
You can read more about the history of hacking at MIT in Nightwork: A History of Hacks and Pranks at MIT by Institute Historian T. F. Peterson. You can also see an updated list of MIT hacks here.

How did they do that?
