What do you do after retiring from a 14-year tenure as president of Massachusetts Institute of Technology? Charles M. Vest (author of Pursuing the Endless Frontier) left MIT in 2004, and has since been appointed president of the National Academy of Engineering. The Chronicle of Higher Education reports today that Charles Vest is to receive a 2006 National Medal of Science.
Mr. Vest will receive a medal in technology for his efforts to advance science and technology in the United States by advocating for partnerships among academe, the government, and industry.
The National Academy of Engineering has a biography of Charles Vest here, or you can see a collection of Vest's MIT communications (and a timeline) at this MIT website.
