Susan Landau, author of the just-published Surveillance or Security?, is scheduled to testify this Thursday before the Subcommittee on Crime, Terrorism and Homeland Security, a unit of the House Judiciary Committee. The session is titled "Going Dark: Lawful Electronic Surveillance in the Face of New Technologies." This is a longtime area of expertise for Landau - a former Sun Microsystems engineer and coauthor of Privacy on the Line: The Politics of Wiretapping and Encryption, now in its second edition. Her new book details how, in the name of greater security, our current electronic surveillance policies are creating major security risks.
The hearing begins at 10 am; if past events are any guide, a video will likely be posted after its completion.
